Wednesday News Update: Kinky Boots, Beer Madness, and a President's Granddaughter

Hello and Happy Wednesday! Today in the news, we have a visit from Lauren Bush Lauren, a mad month of beer, one more Mardi Gras party, and an event honoring women in Memphis music.

Here's a photo from @_its_all_goodin on Twitter of her kids at the Memphis Zoo last week. More of y'all's photos tagged #ilovememphis at the bottom of this post.

Tomorrow morning (March 6) at 10 a.m., Lauren Bush Lauren is speaking at the Memphis Botanic Garden about her work with FEED projects to end world hunger. Her name sound familiar? That's because she's the niece of President George W. Bush and granddaughter of President George H.W. Bush. This is a unique opportunity to see a high profile philanthropist, and the event is free and open to the public. You can sign up here.

On March 20, the Memphis Music Commission is honoring a slew of women musicians and music professionals, including sisters Carla and Vaneese Thomas, at the 5th annual Emissaries of Memphis Music event. The awards show is at the Kroc Center (800 E. Parkway) at 7 p.m. and tickets are $35. Here's the Facebook event page.

Minglewood Hall and The Hi-Tone now have streaming DeliRadio stations on their websites, so you can check out and share the music of upcoming bands. This is actually a pretty neat tool (there are also apps for your smartphones).

If you missed it, here's the lineup for the Beale Street Music Fest May: The Official Lineup

Be a Dive Bar Tourist* in your own hometown and go on the Backbeat Tours Dive Crawl next Friday, March 14. Ten dollars. Four bars. Music. 8 p.m. *good band name

The Memphis Phoenix Club is hosting their annual Mardi Gras and Casino Party this Satruday, March 8. I'll be there and you should come to, because the proceeds go the The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis (Project 50 #2). Click here for the full post on the party

The Orpheum announced their 2014 - 2015 Broadway Season and I think it's going to make a lot of people happy. They have Kinky Boots, The Lion King, and The Phantom of the Opera, among others. Here's the full announcement.

The folks at Memphis Made Brewing are doing their own March Madness this year at both the downtown and Cordova Flying Saucer locations. I would like to point out that they released a beer called "Junt" on Monday, and I am very curious about it. Other beer releases they'll have this month:
- "Bent Note" (spring seasonal) on March 10
- "Plaid Attack" (Scottish ale, oaked) on March 17
- "Cocoa Reverberation" (coffee stout) on March 24
The Memphis Made March Madness will end with beer dinners at Flying Saucer locations on April 3. More on this to come.

P.S. If you haven't seen the CVB's Google Glass video from a Memphis Made brewing session, it's pretty spiffy:

And here are your beautiful photos. Keep tagging them #ilovememphis on Twitter and Instagram and they might show up here.
