National Pancake Day, Memphis Style
It’s National Pancake Day. Sure, you could fight the hungry masses at IHOP to get some for free (and I totally support that decision too because free is free) but here’s another idea: get a stack from one of these fine local establishments.
The Arcade (South Main)
Sit in Elvis’ booth and enjoy a stack of perfect sweet potato pancakes. The Arcade serves breakfast all day. Read more here.
The Pancake Shop (Summer Ave.)
Assignment #48 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to have breakfast at the Pancake Shop, so this is a must for National Pancake Day (or any day). They’re open from 6 a.m. until midnight on weekdays and 24 hours Thursday through Sunday. Read more here.
Blue Plate Cafe (Court Square downtown)
This sunny, cozy spot will give you mountains of whipped cream with your pancakes. Read more here.
From a previous review on this site, regarding the pancakes at Barksdales: “The pancake was seriously awesome. It was sweet, but not too sweet. It was great with just butter on it. It seemed like it had a little bit of a French toast flavor to it. I want to have this pancake’s babies.” Read more here.
Bryant’s (Summer Ave)
The Beauty Shop (Cooper Young)
I’m totally cheating on this one because The Beauty Shop’s pancakes are only available for brunch. But these lemon ricotta are so pretty I had to include. Read more about The Beauty Shop here.
