Mardi Gras Party Alert: Eat Right To Fight Hunger Gala

If you're looking for a way to celebrate Mardi Gras, the Memphis Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MAND) invites you to party with them on Friday night, February 28. It's the second annual Eat Right to Fight Hunger Gala, and the Mardi Gras theme includes live music, dancing, mask-making, an art sale, plus viddles catered by Deja Vu and plenty of libations.

The Gala is at the BRIDGES Center downtown. The tickets are $60 for individual tickets, $100 for a couple, or $375 for a table of eight. 100% of the proceeds will go to benefit the Mid-South Food Bank's Kids Café and Backpack programs. Get tickets here.

Aforementioned Deja Vu viddles (catfish poboy, fried plantains, crawfish etouffe).

If you don't know – Kids Café is a program that lets young people sit down in a restaurant-like setting and enjoy a hot meal after school. There are three Kids Cafés in the area, two serve biweekly meals, and a third Café serves five days a week.

The Backpack program helps feed a kid for a whole weekend with a backpack filled with 6 meals (sponsoring a backpack is just $7!). Currently about 1,900 children in Memphis and Shelby County receive these backpacks every weekend, year-round.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
