Frost Bake Shop is Now Open in Laurelwood

Attention, dessert lovers: as of last week, Memphis has another quality bakery option.

Frost Bake Shop is the first retail location for All American Sweets, aka, the bakery that provides cakes to places like Soul Fish, Lucchesi's and Flemming's.

One wall of the bakery's long, narrow space in Laurelwood is lined with tables and chairs. The other side has a store-length bakery case stuffed with cakes (available whole or by the slice), cookies, cupcakes and pies.

I went home with a gooey butter cookie that I inhaled before I could take an adequate picture of it, it was so delicious. Imagine a scenario in which eating a stick of butter was an acceptable thing to do, and that's what this cookie tastes like – it's creamy and melty and just the slightest bit salty.

I managed to make it home with my entire slice of Memphis Cream cake intact. It's moist banana cake (think banana bread, but softer) layered with peanut butter cream and topped with a thin layer of chocolate ganache.

Cake at Frost runs $4.50 for a substantial chunk of cake, or $38 for a whole cake. Cupcakes are $2, and cookies are $1.25 each or $12 per dozen. They'll also make custom cakes. Right now, Frost is open seven days a week, but they're still working on finalizing their hours (mostly, this means that they're planning to start staying open later on Friday and Saturday nights).

    I'm really glad to know about this place since I have a sweet tooth that will be the death of me. I will have to make a visit to Frost soon…

    Gross!  Had a gooey butter cookie today and I still have the worst after taste in my mouth and this is 4 hours later..,, they clearly use artificial coloring because that is all I can still taste. I avoid artificial coloring in food so I am very sensitive to it.

    Thanks for this post! I had my inaugural visit a few days ago, and it was superb!  Chef Bill was on hand, and he was happy to share company philosophies, care of maintaining from-scratch recipes, and just a happy demeanor.  Tried a lemon cupcake (after hearing of zesting 60 lbs of lemons!) and a gooey butter cookie.  Both superb!
