How Am I Just Now Finding Out About Tycoon Noodle?

I corrected a very serious mistake today over lunch: I went to Tycoon.

I hadn't been avoiding it; somehow, I wasn't aware of its existence until about three days ago. How has a place like this managed to stay a secret for so long?

Tycoon has a several of the qualities that almost guarantee that I'm going to love a restaurant. There's its shopping center location and its kind of ridiculous name; its great signage (including a sheet draped over a busted-looking van parked at the edge of the parking lot boasting Tycoon's Asian food prowess); and the fact that the decor seems to have come from five different places (in Tycoon's case, a stereotypical suburban home kitchen, a beach party and a plant sanctuary). The menu is long and contains hot wings and horchata alongside traditional Asian dishes.

And, right next to my table, there was a 5 gallon bucket containing water guns.

I was a little overwhelmed by the menu, so I ordered the first thing on it: Singapore noodles ($8.95).

It came out quickly, a plate skinny stir-fried rice noodles tangled around slivers of carrots, peppers, celery and onions. The menu mentioned that it contained curry, but the curry flavor was super delicate. The Singapore noodles are marked as spicy, so I ordered them toned down to medium, which I regretted when they came out mild. Not a bad thing, mind you, just not exactly what I was expecting.

If you work anywhere near Hickory Hill, Tycoon should be added to your list of go-to lunch spots, because the service was both friendly and crazy fast, and there were very few things on the menu that cost more than $12.

I took the monkeys about three years ago. Pretty sure the CA has reviewed it as well. Very tasty indeed. Are the Polaroids gone? Used to be able to look at all of the dishes on the wall.

You are right! I'm quite surprised you didn't know about this spot. One of my favorite asian eateries.
