Photo Gallery: The New Rainbow Lake Playground at Overton Park

Overton Park has gone through a lot of really great changes in the past few years: the Levitt Shell shows, the new Overton bark dog park, and now, the complete revamping of the Rainbow Lake Playground.

The playground reopened a few weeks ago, and it’s awesome. ANF Architects completely overhauled the space, replacing the the old plastic slides and sad swings with equipment that makes me sad that I’m not a kid anymore.

There are permanent chess and checker boards, drums, and a bright-red tire swing.

The largest thing on the playground is a huge wooden maze with slides, monkey bars and poles. It’s accessible by ramps and stairs, so kids of all different abilities can use it.

The playground also has a Little Free Library dedicated to kids’ books and a rope climbing nest.

I want one of these sweet hammock swings on my porch.

There’s also a manmade hill that has tunnels running through it, slides and a sandbox.

The Rainbow Lake Playground at Overton Park is open daily from dawn to dusk.

Did you see the tunnel that goes through a hill that kids can climp through? My godson loves it.

  2. Colin says:

The slides were all reused from the old playground, as was the tire swing!  There were no plastic slides at the old one.  Reuse is the new ballin.

  3. Andy says:

This is a great amenity for Midtown parents. My son loves this playground and it's very well-used. Memphis needs to focus on more kid-friendly amenities like the Rainbow Lake Playground.

We found a tag on the top of one of the swings.  They are Pawley's Island Rope Hammocks.  You can buy them online!
