5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 7/5 - 7/8

Happy Friday! Have you recovered from your Fourth of July celebration yet?

Here are five events you won't want to miss in Memphis this weekend:

1. An Evening with the Bar-Kays, Minglewood Hall, Friday, 7 p.m., $40

Legendary Memphis soul band the Bar-Kays (who started as the original Stax Records house band) are playing a special show at Minglewood Hall tonight at 7 p.m. The show is fully seated but general admission, so get there early to get a good seat. And, after the show, there's the after party, held in the 1884 Lounge at Minglewood.

2. Memphis Redbirds vs. Nashville Sounds, Friday - Sunday, 7:05 p.m. Friday / 6:05 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, various prices

This weekend is a perfect baseball weekend. It's right after the Fourth of July, it's pretty calm (there's not much going on because of the holiday), the weather in Memphis has been absurdly amazing for July, and the Redbirds are in the middle of a homestand against the Nashville Sound. There are three games, and some of them will have fireworks.

3. Cycle Memphis July Ride, Ink Bar (the Gazeebo in Cooper-Young), Saturday, 7 p.m. free

Hop on your bike and join in this monthly group ride with dozens of other Memphis cyclists. It starts at the gazeebo in Cooper-Young and goes 15 miles with a break (usually at somewhere fun like Jerry's Snow Cones) in the middle. The ride is medium paced, and all are welcome. Don't forget your helmet.

4. The Fuzz Single Release Show, Hi Tone (on Cleveland), Saturday, 9 p.m., $5

The Fuzz (a Harlan T. Bobo side project / band) is playing at the new Hi-Tone on Cleveland on Saturday night. Harlan and Shelby Bryant will open. Doors are at 9 p.m., and it's $5, all ages.

5. Food Truck Rodeo, Shelby Farms, Sunday, 11 a.m., free

On Sunday afternoon, a handful of Memphis' finest food trucks will post up Shelby Farms' Patriot Lake for their weeky food truck rodeo. Bring some cash and get there early - the rodeo goes until 2 p.m., but you'll get a better selection the earlier you go.

If none of these events are your thing, there are plent more on the blog's calendar. No matter what you do this weekend, I hope you have a great time. Come back and tell me about it on Monday.

Your page says the food trucks are at Shelby Park but the Google Calendar says Overton Park.  Which one is it?
