5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 7/19 – 7/21

Happy Friday! Here are five events you won't want to miss in Memphis this weekend:

1. Rocky Horror Picture Show, Orpheum Theatre, Friday, 8 p.m., $7

If you're one of the few people who have never seen Rocky Horror, it's the story of a pair of newlyweds who get lost on their honeymoon and wind up staying the night at Dr. Frank-N-Furter's dark, mysterious castle. Save for the 8 p.m. start time, the Orpheum is a traditional Rocky Horror Picture Show screening (costumes, audience participation, dancing – the whole thing).

2. LaVinnia London's Cabaret, 1884 Lounge at Minglewood Hall, Friday, 7:30 p.m., $12

LaVinnia London's Cabaret is an evening of traditional Vaudeville entertainment featuring live music, circus-style acts, burlesque and more. This weekend's performers include the Side Street Steppers, Memphis Raqs Belly Dance, the Hooper Troopers, burlesque dancers, aerialists and magic.

3. WEVL Blues on the Bluff, National Ornamental Metal Museum, Saturday, 6 p.m., $25

Bring a chair and some friends to WEVL's annual Blues on the Bluff concert at the Metal Museum. Elmo and the Shades and the Bo-Keys will play, and there will be a silent auction and plenty of food and drink. Proceeds benefit Memphis' only volunteer radio station.

4. Pop-Up Hip Hop Art Show, Marshall Arts, Saturday, 7 p.m., $10

At the Pop-Up Hip Hop Art Show, you can check out (and buy) visual art and photography from up-and-coming Memphis artists, listen to live music from IMAKEMADBEATS and Melvin Thomas and see live dance from 901 House of Dance. The event is family friendly, and they'll have food and drinks for sale.

5. Dead Soldiers, The Cove, Sunday, 9 p.m., $5

The Cove recently started opening on Sunday nights again, and this week, they're having a rare end-of-the-weekend show. Dead Soldiers (my favorite Memphis country punk band) is playing, and they're promising drink specials, strange cover songs and a very good time for everyone.

If none of these events butter your biscuit, check the calendar for more. No matter what you do this weekend, I hope you have a blast. Come back and tell me about it on Monday.
