5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 2/22 - 2/24

5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 2/22 - 2/24

Happy Friday! Here's this weekend's list of five Memphis events you won't want to miss:

1. U.S. National Indoor Tennis Championships, The Racquet Club, Friday - Sunday, all day, various prices

Tennis-Ball-Record

If you haven't stopped by the U.S. National Indoor Tennis Championships yet, this would be a great time to do so. The tournament ends on Sunday, so the next three days will be packed with the best matches. Also, they've got Pronto-Pups. Before you go, check out this list of five tips for making the most of the event.

2. Yo Gabba Gabba! Live!, Orpheum Theatre, Friday, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., $18 - $32

Bring your family and join DJ Lance Rock, Brobee, Toodee,  Muno, Plex and Biz Markie (yes, that one) at the Orpheum for a night of dancing and silliness as the live version of psychedelic kids' show "Yo Gabba Gabba!" takes the stage.

3. Object Quilt CD Release Show, The Cove, Friday, 10 p.m., $5

Memphis music scene veteran Jeff Hulett (Snowglobe, Glorie) is throwing a release party for his one-man-band record at the Cove tonight. Chad Nixon is the opening act, and the Wuvbirds will close the show down. This one is 21 and up.

4. Last Hi-Tone Show Ever: Oblivians and the Barbaras, Hi-Tone Cafe, Feb. 23, $15

oblivians

Celebrate the end of an era with a big, rock'n'roll send-off featuring two of the most legendary local bands in recent memory. The Oblivians and the Barbaras (a band made up of some of the members of Magic Kids that broke-up before they could really get started) will play, and DJs Buck Wilders and the Hook-Up are reuninting for the night. The show is 21+, and I suspect that by the end of the night, there may be tears. There will definitely be no more beers.

5. Youth Villages Soup Sunday, FedExForum, Sunday, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., $10 kids / $25 adults

Youth Villages Soup Sunday

Grab a spoon and sample soup, breads and desserts from more than 50 local restaurants at Youth Villages' annual Soup Sunday fundraiser. This year, you can also grab samples from the outdoor food truck tent. If you're feeling fancy, splurge on a VIP ticket for more food (and drinks) in the upstairs suite. When you're done eating, stick around to watch the U of M women's basketball team play UTEP in the arena (free with your Soup Sunday wristband).

If none of these events keep your skillet good and greasy, check the calendar for tons more. As always, no matter what you do, I hope you have a great time.
