Winter Food Review: Chili from Fuel Cafe

Winter Food Review: Chili from Fuel Cafe

The chili from Fuel Cafe has no meat in it. The good news is, you won't care.

Chili, Fuel Cafe, Memphis, Tenn.

I'm an omnivore, and when I make chili at home, I usually do it with chicken or ground beef, but my lunch today at Fuel Cafe has me rethinking the meat.Their chili is made with quinoa (which gives it a good ground beefy texture) in a tomato-heavy broth with a smattering of kidney beans. It's topped with green onions and your choice of dairy or vegan sour cream and shredded cheese. It's decently seasoned with just the tiniest bit of spice, which is easily neutralized with the sour cream.

It's $5 and comes served in a coffee-sized cup. That doesn't seem like a lot of chili, but the quinoa and beans make it filling, even without the meat. It's not so huge, though, that you couldn't eat it as a side dish if you're super hungry.

I feel like Bianca would be so proud of me.
