Kids Learn Rock'n'Roll Skills at Germantown's School of Rock

When I was in high school, I was in the marching band. I was proud to be in the marching band, but I probably would have been a little cooler if I had learned to play something other than the tuba.

This is why I wish that School of Rock had been around when I was learning to play.

School of Rock, Germantown, Tenn.

Because while marching band (and concert band and wind ensemble) taught me a lot about discipline, music and being part of a team, it didn't exactly teach me how to do something that would make me instantly cool.

At School of Rock, kids can learn guitar, bass, drums, keyboards or vocals. Once the kids learn to play, they're grouped into bands who work up tunes to play onstage at live showcases. The teachers are working or professional musicians (like Brad Pounders, who seems to have been in almost every Memphis band ever).

The School of Rock just opened in Memphis. You can find out about the classes that they offer here.

Anyone know if Angela Horton is involved in this endeavor as a drum-dojo? Talk about being a bad ass, Angela exudes cool. If you know Angie, forward this program information; she currently jams with the trio, Gasoline Grace. lp
