365 Things to Do in Memphis #256: See the Crosstown Disco Ball

It's technical name is "Beacon", but I know it better as "the Crosstown Disco Ball". Whatever you call it, assignment #256 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to have a look at the burgeoning neighborhood's new art.

Crosstown Disco Ball, Memphis, Tenn.

The sculpture, which was made by artists Eli Gold and Colin Kidder, was installed on a pole on the strange little peninsula between Watkins and Cleveland a few weeks ago. It's made out of 51 bicycle wheels, and when the wind blows, the wheels turn and glitter in the sun, giving it a nice giant disco ball effect.
