5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 8/24 - 8/26

It's Friday, and I don't know about you, but I couldn't be happier. Here are five super fun things to do with the next three days:

1. Jerry Seinfeld, Orpheum Theatre, Friday, 7 p.m., $64 - $75

Emmy-winning comedian Jerry Seinfeld is bringing his hilarious observational-style stand-up comedy to the Orpheum's stage tonight. Tickets are a little pricey, but the man is kind of a big deal.

2. Sugarland, FedExForum, Aug. 24, 7:30 p.m., $20 – $60

Sugarland, the grammy-nominated country duo (country-pop, really, given their mainstream success) is stopping at the FedExForum on Aug. 24 as part of their "In Your Hands" tour.

3. Forrest Spence 5K, Overton Park, Saturday, 8 a.m., $30

Get up early Saturday morning for the fifth annual Forrest Spence Fund 5K at Overton Park. The event is a 5K, one mile fun run, a 100 yard dash, a kids' area and plenty of food and music. The money raised at the event benefits the Forrest Spence Fund, which assists to the families of LeBonheur patients with their non-medical needs.

4. Maya Angelou, Cannon Center, Saturday, 7:30 p.m. $25 - $100

Maya Angelou, Memphis, Tenn.

Dr. Maya Angelou will be speaking at the Cannon Center on Saturday night as part of Agape's Heartlight 2012. The celebrated writer, playwright and poet will speak about the importance of strong children, families and communities.

5. Midnight Classic Bike Ride, Poplar Plaza, Saturday, 10 p.m., $50 adults / $25

Midnight Classic, Memphis, Tenn.

For one night in August, Memphis' streets get super bicycle friendly all night long. The 17-mile Midnight Classic ride leaves from Poplar Plaza at midnight, winds through midtown and downtown and ends back at the plaza. Before the ride, there will be live music, beer and all kinds of good times at the Plaza. Wear a helmet, ok?

If none of these events are your thing, there are tons more on the blog's calendar. No matter what you do this weekend, I hope you have a blast. Come back and tell me about it on Monday.

A bike polo court will be set up, so if you've ever wanted to try it out, now's your chance! We'll have all the equipment you'll need (aka a mallet)!
