365 Things to Do in Memphis #223: Eat a Barbecue Pizza

Anyone can put pepperoni on a pizza. It takes people of a certain disposition and geography (like ours)  to put barbecue on one. Assignment #223 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to eat a barbecue pizza.

Barbecue Pizza, Memphis, Tenn.

Barbecue pizza exists to keep the peace. It’s a delicious, meaty, cheesy solution to situations where one person wants barbecue and the other wants a pizza. A good barbecue pizza is like a regular pizza, only topped with saucy chunks of pulled pork instead of sausage or pepperoni or other more traditional pizza meats.

Here are a few places to get them:

Garibaldi’s – 921 South Yates Road (East Memphis), 7521 Queens Court (Germantown) or 3530 Walker Ave. (near U of M).

Aldo’s Pizza Pies – 100 S. Main St. (Aldo’s uses Tops’ barbecue on their barbecue pizzas).

Coletta’s1063 South Parkway East (Stay there and eat – the restaurant’s interior is retro fabulous.

Camy’s – 3 South Barksdale (If you live in midtown or downtown, they’ll bring it to you.)

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
