Wednesday News Update: Hellos, Goodbyes and Compromises

Today in Memphis, we say goodbye to Juice and Cockadoos, hello to a new Overton Square bar and clear up some of the myths about Voodoo Village. Also, I need your help with something (but don't worry - it's easy).

Here's your Wednesday news update:

Metal Trees, Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Memphis, Tenn.

(Metal trees, Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Memphis, Tenn.)

- First, it's business time: the annual I Love Memphis readers' survey is up, and I would really appreciate it if you'd take a few minutes to fill it out. Your feedback will help me make the blog even better in the coming year. Remember, I can't meet your needs if you don't tell me what they are.

- It's time to retire your "Juice is my homeboy" t-shirts. Former Memphis Grizzlies guard OJ Mayo has signed with the Dallas Mavericks

- Do you like making clothes? Are you up for a Project Runway-style challenge? Memphis City Beautiful is looking for artists and designers for their annual Trashion show (where people model clothing made of recycled materials). Apply here.

- Here's a bunch of restaurant news: Cockadoos (the best place to eat downtown after 1 a.m.) has closed. McDonald's is looking to hire 1000 people in the Memphis area. A franchise bar that promises to keep things local is moving into the huge, empty former comedy club in Overton Square.

- You love the new bike lanes on McLean, but you still need somewhere to park. The city is working on it.

- Lastly, Voodoo Village isn't a place to go to get scared - it's someone's home. For a limited time, though, you can see some of the sculptures from St. Paul's Spiritual Temple in the "Soul of the City" exhbit at the Brooks Musuem through Sept. 2.

If you've got a tip or something you'd like to see featured on I Love Memphis, let me know. If you've got an upcoming event (or know about a good one), submit it to the blog's calendar.

Do you know why Cockadoos closed? Will they try and open somewhere else? I love those BBQ  eggs!
