365 Things to Do in Memphis #183: Have Dinner at Beale Street’s Secret Restaurant

Let’s play a little word association game. When I say “Beale Street”, you think…

Bold, maybe. Loud, perhaps. You might also say bright, fun, crowded or touristy. You probably don’t think of words like “discrete” and “tasteful”. But that’s exactly what Itta Bena, a restaurant hidden above B.B. King’s Club, is.

Assignment #183 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to have dinner in stealth at Itta Bena.

Itta Bena, Memphis, Tenn.

Here’s a full review of Itta Bena, plus detailed instructions for finding the place.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.

Thank you so much for your blog!  Although we only had 24 hrs in Memphis, we tried to do some of your suggestions. This one was THE best! We ordered exactly what you did.  OMG! Not only is the food five star but the staff is very friendly too. We also did not go through the alley door.  On the second floor inside BB is an exit door. That door leads to the stairway that goes to the restaurant.  Thank you for this suggestion.  It was an experience that is at the top of our restaurant list.
