New Retail Pops Up at the Power House Gallery
New Retail Pops Up at the Power House Gallery
For the next few months at least, there's a new place to shop for home decor and gifts downtown.
The shop is called beeTemps, and it's the first of the pop-up shops that are filling the empty space at the Power House Gallery this year.
In March, the Downtown Memphis Commission put out a call for pop-up shop concepts and Debra Connor's proposal for a shop that carried unique, affordable houswares was chosen to open in April. Connor, a former general contractor with a background in architecture, had been looking for a space to hold a pop up shop after holding trunk shows in East Memphis.
In the past month, Connor has filled the bright upstairs portion of the former gallery space with vintage and vintage-inspired furniture, dishes, vases and gifts. Everything is surprisingly affordable.
"The whole premise is for my merchandise to be something that's not carried at other shops at such an affordable price," Connor said. "Everyone should have a beautiful living space no matter what the budget."
beeTemps is open from 11:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursdays and from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturdays (to coincide with the Memphis Farmers Market) until their time runs out at the end of June. After beeTemps is done with the space, a new shop will take its place and Connor will find other places to pop up in the fall.
