Mi Pueblo Opens in East Memphis
A few of you have asked if I've been to try Mi Pueblo, the new Mexican restaurant in East Memphis yet, and honestly, I have to admit that I didn't know that it was new. The restaurant's awning, signs and patio tables have been set up for what seems like at least a year, but the restauant only officially opened this spring.
I tried it for the first time last night for dinner. Since the weather was so pleasant, I asked if we could sit outside on the narrow upstairs patio. The patio, which gives a scenic view of the Whole Foods parking lot, is covered and well lit.
We started out with chips, salsa and white cheese dip. The salsa tasted fresh and it had the exact right ammount of chunkiness to it.
Mi Pueblo's menu is huge - it seems like they offer every single Mexican dish known ever. I went with the Enchiladas Suizas (which is always one of my favorite things to order at Las Delicias). They were a little different than the ones that Las Delicias serves, but they were good.
Three rolled tortillas were stuffed with shredded chicken, green bell peppers and onions and topped with mild red enchilada sauce. The menu said they came with parmesan cheese, but it just means that they sprinkle a little powdered parmesan on. I poured some of my remaining cheese dip on top and they were perfection.
I washed my dinner down with a strawberry margarita. I had ordered it frozen, but when it came out, it was more the consistency of pulpy orange juice. It was very sweet, sort of like a thick Strawberry Snapple with a generous pour of tequila in it. What it lacked in icy perfection it made up for in strength.
Mi Pueblo is open daily for lunch and dinner. They've got a decent happy hour special Monday through Saturday: 12 oz. lime margaritas are $1.99 each with the purchase of dinner.
