Made in Memphis: Becca Belz Earrings

Made in Memphis: Becca Belz Earrings

If I had pierced ears, I would be all about these blue stone and chain earrings by local jewelry designer Becca Belz

They seem like the sort of thing you could either wear to a fancy cocktail thing or as your lucky basketball season earrings, no?

Becca Belz earrings

Becca's designs aren't for the timid - her chain bracelets, stone earrings and huge, chunky necklaces are made to be statement pieces.

And the best part? I've got a pair of Becca's chunky blue earrings to give one of you. If you're interested, leave a comment on this post telling me where you (or someone special in your life) would wear these earrings before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9th. The winner will be chosen completely at my discretion, so the better the answer, the better your chances.

(ed. note: Made in Memphis is an occasional feature that shows off locally made products and art. If you’ve got something you’d like to suggest for a future Made in Memphis, let me know.)

My husband and I volunteer with (and have rescued a hound from) a local Basset Hound rescue organization -- BellyRubs Basset Rescue. They are hosting an event at the Bumpus Harley Davidson in Bartlett next weekend called the Bumpus Basset Boogie. I would totally wear them there -- they would match the event t-shirt perfectly!

I would wear these fabulous creations to my boyfriends birthday party I planned(with the help of your I love Memphis scavenger hunt post) for him this Saturday Nov 12th. He turns 25 on Nov 9th, so I have 25 stops all around Memphis for him to do during the day while I sadly, work...he ends by the river where he will find me and a bottle of wine(hopefully wearing these lovely earrings). Pick me! I promise to wear them for every Tigers game too!

I'm an avid University of Memphis fan. I go to ALL the home football games and as many basketball games as possible. These earrings would be perfect to wear to Tiger sporting events along with all the alumni gatherings.

I'd wear them to the first UofM b-ball game this season then out late night downtown-probably end up stopping by the Lamplighter on our way home and they would be (by far) the best looking earrings in the room!

I'd like to give these to my soon-to-be fiancée; we met in Memphis, she has since moved away, but the city is still special to us and these are just her style. So, if I could give them to her as well as the ring, I think it would be very special.

I would give them to my mom as a late birthday present this weekend. It's great that they are blue since she could wear them for her Memphis Blues Queens events. In case you've never heard of them, this is the Memphis chapter of the Sweet Potato Queens. They dress up all fabulous and work charity events by doing lip-syncing routines and also their marching band dance routines. Young at heart in blue suede shoes!!!

My wife, Sandy, and I moved to my hometown of Memphis six years ago from Alaska, where she was born and raised. The first year was a bit daunting for Sandy, who initially didn’t “get” Memphis – or the South, for that matter. But over time she has become a true Memphian. She loves the Tigers and the Grizzlies. She loves the music, the food, the people and the vibe. She loves everything about this great city. We are going to the Cotton Museum’s Harvest Party on Saturday night, and I can think of no better accessory for her to wear to this truly Southern soiree than a pair of made-in-Memphis earrings given away on the I Love Memphis blog.

I would wear them with pride to work (at the UofM) because they are the perfect shade of Memphis Tiger blue, and I'd tell all of my fabulous co-workers where I got these amazing, locally made earrings!

I rarely purchase jewelry, but when I do it's under duress (when folks whom I'm with are tired of me being a cheapskate) or I get locally made earrings because they're nice mementos of the places I've been, and are sweet, easily storable baubles that can be dressed up or down in a pinch.  These earrings are much more badass than the typically earthy earrings in my box and would give me the cajones I need to take on some of the meaner elements in this world, especially when paired with my leather biker jacket (it's that season, oh yeah!)

I really don't need an event to wear them to , I would wear them just because they are beautiful. But if I had to pick one special event it would have to be the 35th Anniversary Elvis Concert at the Fed Ex Centre  in Memphis next August. What could be better than putting on something beautiful for a beautiful Man.

Currently, I live in Baltimore, MD. I moved here two years ago from Memphis and I am counting down the days until I get to return in January!! I love anything that reminds me of home because I miss it everyday. I would wear these any chance I got here in Baltimore. I go out to watch U of M basketball games around town and these earrings would help me display my Memphis pride! I would also love to have them on when I begin to spread the word to friends and colleagues in Baltimore that I will be leaving to return to the city, friends and family I love and miss on a daily basis. Being able to display pieces from Memphis brings me comfort and allows me share with others how great our city really is...and drum up some tourism!!

Alongside wearing them to the NCAA championship game in March, where the Tigers will be taking on the #2 team in the nation, I will also be wearing them with my dress to every restaurant I intent to try during Downtown Dining Week.

These would look absolutely stonishing with my new dark blue suede vest, that I will be wearing on our Michigan Wine Tour this weekend. But they also look 'Spring-y', so I would wear them to Memphis in May....

I'm pregnant...not the cute kind either. While I keep my wardrobe basic (think: black, color blocking, etc...) I love to ramp up my accessories. This includes scarves, boots, chunky necklaces, earrings (*wink*) - the bigger, the bolder, the better! Needless to say, these would be a welcomed addition to my preggo-style.

I think these would be great to wear to my engagement party next year, but I'd probably have to break them out way before that, perhaps for a fancy dinner to one of the amazing local restaurants my fiance and I have missed so dearly in our year away from the city!

With the holidays coming up there would be so many chances to wear these. White Station Chior Concert where my daughter will be singing, Macon Rd Thanksgiving program where my youngest will be doing a play and all of the upcoming holiday parties. The earings are simply beautiful!

I grew up in Memphis, and I have now lived in Bar Harbor, Maine for 31 years.  I am really missing my home town, and I come home every chance I get.  So I would wear the earrings just anywhere with dressy clothing or just hanging out in jeans, here on the coast or in the mountains.  I would wear them just because they would remind me of my home that I miss so much.  And I would hope to have them to wear when I come home in May 2012 for my nephew's wedding.
