Get Lost (And Terrified) In the Haunted Web of Horrors
This October, the scariest place in Memphis is a former movie theater at Trinity Commons.
Haunt master Patrick French has created two incredibly scary worlds for this year's Haunted Web of Horrors: "Tormented" and "Dark Matter".
"Tormented" is a gory, body part-filled romp through an asylum where the doctor seeks to cure insanity by causing all of the sane people to be insane that continues through the swamp where the good doctor dumps the bodies, into the shacks of the hill people that feast on them (and apparently, use them for home decor).
Along the way, there are partially "cured" patients, bloody, unsterilized laboratories, hanging vines, loud noises and various power tools (including the classic haunted house chainsaw).
With a cast of about 30 volunteers and tons of small rooms and mazes, "Tormented" is plenty scary. Know though, that Tormented is a very gory, visual haunt that might not be appropriate for younger visitors.
The other side of the Haunted Web of Horrors takes a different approach to fear. "Dark Matter", which has a creepy fun house theme, uses dark corridors, loads of 3-D paint and visual and spatial tricks to create a more mental haunt.
There are several ways through "Dark Matter", and since there's no blood and gore, it's more appropriate for younger kids (and those who aren't so into guts). If you're terrified of carnivals, tight-ish spaces and darkness, "Dark Matter" will be good (or bad, depending on how scared you are) for you.
On average, it takes about 20 minutes to get through either side of the Haunted Web of Horrors, but it could be shorter or longer depending on how scared you get (and how fast you run).
Individual tickets to either side of the Web are $10, but for $18, you can get admission into both "Tormented" and "Dark Matter". All of the proceeds from the Haunted Web go to benefit Youth Villages. As a bonus, Youth Villages has a grant from the Day Foundation that will match all of the proceeds raised from the Haunted Web.
The Haunted Web of Horrors opens tomorrow and runs every weekend through Halloween.
