The New Best Fries in Memphis?
The New Best Fries in Memphis?
Look out, Young Ave. Deli - the Brass Door has only been open for a few weeks, but I think they're already trying to claim your "best fries in Memphis" honors.
Check out this paper cone full of tastiness that I got at the Brass Door:
The fries - excuse me, chips - are salty perfection. They're crispy on the outside and light and mushy in the middle. They're generously sprinkled with sea salt flakes, and they come with a side of curry dipping sauce. They're also good with ketchup. They'd probably be good with just about any dipping sauce. Or on their own. Whatever.
Behind the fries, you'll see a sandwich. It's a wee tiny Cuban and it was the "slider of the day" when I was there. The daily special comes served in sets of threes.
The Brass Door is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. - midnight-ish. The kitchen closes around 9 p.m.
If you stop by, be sure to explore the extremely pretty building (it used to house a tobacco shop). If there aren't any seats on the first floor, head up to the mezzanine or to the "Cavern" - aka, the basement - big room with a stage for live music.
