President's Day, Volunteer Opportunities, BrewFest Tickets and Memphian No. 52

365 Memphians - Gary Williams

Chef Gary Williams was one of my fellow judges at the the TEP's Gumbo Contest yesterday. He was probably the most qualified of all of us to judge the gumbo - he's from New Orleans and is the chef / owner of DejaVu, a Creole and vegan restaurant downtown.

In other news:

- Happy President's Day! Banks and post offices may be closed, but LaserQuest is open. They're having a special tonight - three games of laser tag for $18 per person.

- Attention, beer nerds - tickets for Memphis BrewFest go on sale tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. The beer tasting, which is at AutoZone Park, sold out last year, so if you're interested in going, buy your tickets sooner rather than later.

- If you're looking to do some good this spring, there's going to be a Volunteer Expo on Thursday, Feb. 24th at Oak Court Mall from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. It's a great way to meet tons of local organizations that need volunteers all in one place.

- I'm like a lot of Tigers Fans - I don't want to talk about what happened at Rice on Saturday night. I'd rather just look forward to their home game against UTEP tomorrow night.

I made gumbo yesterday for dinner, had totally forgotten about the contest! I suppose my stomach did and had its way...
