Meet Memphian #46, Melissa Hass

365 Memphians - Melissa Hass

Meet Melissa Hass, the floor director for Channel 3's "Live at 9". She was kind enough to answer a few questions about food, getting up early and her secret rapper skills.

Name: Melissa Hass

Occupation: I'm a Floor Director for News Channel 3. I also do freelance work for CBS Sports, and I'm an aspiring actress - I keep busy!

Hometown: I was born and raised in Memphis, Tenn.

Neighborhood: I grew up in Bartlett, around the corner from the Raleigh Springs Mall.

The coolest part of my job is: the people. I get to meet celebrities, local entrepreneurs, musicians...it's pretty incredible. We have a ton of fun, and not a lot of people get to say that about their job. And, I love the food! When we have cooking segments, I'm in heaven.

On the weekends, I: I'm kind of lame. ha! It really depends. I might be out with friends and hitting up a local restaurant, the movies, or sitting at home reading/relaxing. If I get the chance to travel, I'm doing that.

My favorite Memphis restaurant is: To ask a question like that in this city is preposterous! There are so many wonderful places. If I had to choose, it would be a tie between Young Avenue Deli and Kooky Kanuck's. I love sweet potato fries, and fried pickles and these places have the best.

People don’t know that I: can flow. Yes, I love rap.

In the future, I want Memphis to: have lower crime, and get a better education program. We have such a great city and such a bad reputation. It's a shame.

I’m so glad that: I have God, great family and friends in my life. Very blessed.

The most interesting person we’ve had on Live at 9 is: Wow, that's loaded. We've had several interesting people on Live at 9. Huey Lewis was the latest and greatest. Billy Bob Thorton was very interesting, too.

My hidden talent is: I make some mean deviled eggs.

When people from out of town visit Memphis, I make sure they go to: Central Barbecue. I'll admit, I'm not the biggest fan of barbecue (I'll eat it, but it's not my fav...) but this town is known for it's barbecue, and I absolutely love Central.

I love Memphis because: Memphis is Memphis. We have Elvis, barbecue, Beale Street, friendly people, and best of all, the Memphis Tigers. I'm proud of my town!
