Get Hitched! 10 Uniquely Memphis Places to Get Married

Get Hitched! 10 Uniquely Memphis Places to Get Married

Memphis has tons of great places to get hitched that are a little funkier than your average reception hall. If you're engaged, ditch the stale party room and get hitched at one of these uniquely Memphis locations:

1. National Ornamental Metal Museum (374 Metal Museum Drive)

National Ornamental Metal Museum

If you want to tie the knot outside, there's nowhere more scenic than atop the bluff at the Metal Museum. There's a gorgeous view of the Mississippi River and both bridges, especially at sunset. There's also plenty to explore on the sculpture-filled museum grounds. It's one of those places that's good for a big fancy to-do or a more casual picnic-style soiree.

2. Lichterman Nature Center (5992 Quince Road)

Lichterman Nature Center's wooded grounds are great for outdoor weddings year-round (the nature center is a certified arboretum). Rent out the big pavilion for dinner and dancing, host a winter reception inside the visitor's center or say your vows next to the huge, lily-pad covered pond.

3. Cadre Building (149 Monroe Ave)

If you want to get hitched downtown and have a huge guest list, book the 13,000 square foot grand ballroom at the Cadre Building. The historic, art-deco building was completed in 1928. The Cadre is a great venue for those of you with tons of out of town guests - it's located within walking distance of most downtown hotels.

4. Elmwood Cemetery (824 South Dudley Street)

Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, Tenn.

It might sound a little weird to get married at a cemetery, but trust me on this one. Elmwood is beautiful, historic and full of great stories. They've got a small chapel on the grounds that's perfect for intimate weddings. Plus, think about the photos - Elmwood is a photography student favorite for a reason.

5. Stax Museum of American Soul Music (926 East McLemore Avenue)

Stax Museum of American Soul Music, Memphis, Tenn.

Three reasons to get married at the Stax Museum:

1. They've got a life-size replica of a depression-era Southern church.

2. You can tie the knot next to Isaac Hayes' car. (Just make sure that it doesn't blurt out "Don't touch my ride!" during a pivotal moment.)

3. Some of the best music in the history of ever came out of Stax's studios. Plus, think how awesome would it be to hold your reception on the Soul Train dance floor?

6. Brooks Museum of Art (1934 Poplar Avenue)

Get married in the galleries at the Brooks Museum of Art. Or, in the rotunda. Or on the marble patio on the side of the building. Whatever you do, make sure you feed your guests with food from the Brushmark restaurant.

7. Hi-Tone Cafe (1913 Poplar Avenue)

If you and your fiancee are a little more rock'n'roll, get hitched at Midtown's favorite music venue. Get married on the stage where incredible bands (like Elvis Costello, Harlan T. Bobo, Those Darlins and Lucero) have played. Make sure you've got plenty of pizza for everybody and give your guests plenty of room to dance.

8. Central Station (545 South Main Street)

Memphis' Amtrak station may not be as busy as it once was, but it's still a great place to host an event. Seal the deal in the huge reception hall or in the lobby under the neon train arrival sign. If you're getting married in the summer, pick up flowers from the Memphis Farmer's Market, which happens in the pavilion behind the building every Saturday.

9. Center for Southern Folklore (119 S Main St # 106)

Center for Southern Folklore, Memphis, TN

The Center for Southern Folklore is colorful, charming and very, very Memphis. There's art by local artists on the walls, famous pianos, a shop selling locally-made goods and plenty of space for a big Southern dinner and dance party. If your guests are from out of town, the Center is downtown and right on the Main St. trolley line.

10. Memphis Botanic Gardens (750 Cherry Road)

Memphis botanic gardens, Memphis, TN

Save on flowers by having your wedding in one of the gardens at the Memphis Botanic Garden. Or, get married in My Big Backyard, a kid-friendly wonderland with tons of interactive sculptures and a big house perfect for indoor receptions. After the wedding, have the reception in one of the two big event halls.

This is just a short list - there are a ton of unique places in Memphis to get married. Ask your favorite restaurant if you can rent out a private room for the reception. Ask the owner of that building or outdoor space that you love if you can get married there. Just make sure the food is good, the music is awesome and the bar is open - people will have fun no matter what.

I'm glad you included the Lord's Chapel at Elmwood Cemetery. It really is beautiful and perfect for a small wedding. What better place to take the oath "till death do us part"? Go here for more info: http://www.elmwoodcemetery.org/about-us/the-lords-chapel/

Center for Southern Folklore is a GREAT venue. We had our rehearsal dinner there, and everyone loved it, especially the out of town guests. Our reception was at Memphis Water Works, which is another amazing Memphis venue.

Some friends had an awesome reception at Gibson Guitar. They were married at St Patricks and we rode buses to Gibson. We had a great time and half the wedding party partied the night away on Beale.

Why not Dixon?
The Dixon Gallery and Gardens should have a place on this list if the Brooks Museum and Botanical Gardens are on it. The Dixon has the charm and sophistication that makes any wedding special and has the unique gardens and landscape for perfect photos and a great southern party. You skipped over a good one!!

You should add Graceland's Chapel in the Woods. It is a darling chapel in a secluded wooded area next to Graceland. And you get to have your photo taken on the front steps of the Graceland Mansion.

My husband and I got married in the Memphis Zoo last year and it was amazing. We considered many other places (Brooks, Pink Palace, Botanical Gardens) when looking for a venue but we had to choose the zoo because we love it so much. We are midtowners and animal lovers so it was the perfect choice for us.

Hi Elvira! Congratulations! I'd do some Googling and emailing with Memphis wedding venues - I'm not sure what you're looking for exactly - but I do know that plenty of people come in town to marry at Graceland, you might wish to look into that. Let me know if you have any other questions!
