If I could go back in time and do middle school over again, I'd want to do it as Zoe Lewis. She's got style, smarts, and rock star credentials (she's formed bands at Delta Girls Rock Camp). She's also extremely self-possessed and outgoing - so much so that she let me take her picture while she was sporting a unicorn horn fashioned out of pipe cleaners.
In other news:
- Hooray! Victory Bicycle Studio in Cooper-Young is reopening on Feb. 1. The high-end cycle shop had to close after a devastating fire wrecked the brand new shop.
- There are three high-profile estate sales coming up in Memphis. Writer Shelby Foote's estate (which doesn't include his writing, but has tons of antiques) will be for sale in early March, and Tamara Mitchell-Ford's estate will be for sale Feb. 10 - 15th. The most promising of the three sales is Isaac Hayes' estate, which includes a sauna, a white baby grand piano, and the treadmill he collapsed on.
- You may want to replentish your milk sandwich supplies - Memphis is supposed to get another winter storm this week. The storm promises to combine all sorts of winter unpleasantness - snow, ice, freezing rain, freezing drizzle, sleet, bitter cold - into one nasty, cold wet mess that's supposed to hit our fair city sometime Thursday afternoon.
