Lunch is Serious Business at Lisa's Lunchbox

Lunch is Serious Business at Lisa's Lunchbox

Last week, I mentioned that one of the reasons I love living in Memphis is that we have to work to find cool places and things. I think I also said something about how putting forth an effort makes said cool things so much more worth it.

I was totally thinking about that while I was repeatedly cruising the Ridgeway loop, looking for Lisa's Lunchbox. It's a tiny diner located on the first floor of an office building that's identical to every other office building on the street.

Despite being difficult to find, Lisa's Lunchbox is nearly perfect in every other way.

Chicken salad and potato soup from Lisa's Lunchbox

They've got an impressive selection of sandwiches, salads, wraps and desserts. I ordered half of a chicken salad sandwich and a cup of potato soup. The chicken salad was nice and simple - just chicken, eggs, celery, mayo, and a tiny bit of relish. The soup was loaded with potato chunks, bacon bits and carrots.

The vibe at Lisa's is a little corporate, largely because it's in an office building. Most of the people there were office staffers in business casual dress. It's super friendly, though. There is actually a Lisa, and she was working behind the counter, making sandwiches, bantering with regulars and greeting everyone that came in by name.

Lisa's Lunchbox is open Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. According to their website, they also deliver.

Yeah, *looking* for Lisa's Lunchbox could take awhile, since there's no sign it's in there. You've got to just get the address and go for it. I found it by chance doing a Google search two years ago and have been a devoted regular ever since!

Like many Memphians, you probably don't go to Beale Street much, but if you're looking for a little hidden gem, check out the Absinthe Room. It's above King's Palace and it's a pretty neat little space.
