To the reader that suggested that I find an accurate count of all of the no left turn signs on Union Ave. for the Memphis scavenger hunt, I have your answer: 43.

Going west, there are 19. Heading east, there are 24.

Most of them are concentrated between Cooper and Cleveland, where Union used to change directions with the flow of traffic during rush hour. The bizarre lane switching may have stopped years ago, but there's still no turning left at the lights. Each intersection is marked with at least three signs facing each direction.

There are surprisingly few no left turn signs marking the one-way streets downtown, where an errant left turn will likely get you killed.

My recommendation to you, dear driver, is to avoid turning left off of Union.
