Put It Together, Take It Apart at Charlotte
Put It Together, Take It Apart at Charlotte
South Main's newest shop, Charlotte, is perfect for those of you who insist on taking everything apart.
The jewelry at Charlotte is sort of like adult Legos. All of the pieces in the collection fit with all of the other pieces. Meaning, the stones in the middle of the rings can become necklace pendants, necklaces can be snapped together to make longer necklaces, and round, flat stones and discs can be mixed and matched.
The shop is part of a German company called Charlotte Ehinger-Schwarz that's been open since 1876. There are only two stores in the US - one in Santa Fe and one in Memphis. The current collection has about 26,000 items in it, but only about 800 are available in the Memphis store. Starter kits start at around $175.
Charlotte's owner, Sarah Worden, recently moved the shop from Germantown to South Main. Since the move, Worden said that she's had more foot traffic than ever. It makes sense - South Main is a perfect neighborhood for the funky, pretty jewelry store.
