A girl forever frolicks in one of the sculptures at Cancer Survivors Park in East Memphis.
In other news (and there's a lot of it):
- Cruises are returning to the Mississippi River. A Seattle-based cruise company is going to run 7 day cruises from Memphis to New Orleans and Nashville. They'll probably start in 2011, when the Beale St. Landing is developed.
- Soccer fans that don't mind getting up early can watch tomorrow's match between the USA and Solvenia at Bardog (opening at 6:30 a.m.) and Calhoun's Sport's Bar (on G.E. Patterson) will both be open for the game.
- My favorite local menu site, Mark's Menus, announced a cool "specials" feature yesterday. When you search for a menu on their site (or their iPhone app), look out for stars - the stars mean there's a special nearby. I recommend testing it out tonight at South of Beale - they're offering $5 off of a meal to anyone that shows an out-of-town driver's license.
- The Magic Kids are releasing a full-length record (called "Memphis") in August.
- If you're in need of something to do tonight, you've got options: the Orpheum is showing "Philadelphia Story" (7:15 p.m., $7), the Brooks Museum is showing "Hard Core Logo" (billed as a punk rock "Spinal Tap"), there's a tweet up for Habitat for Humanity at South of Beale (4-7 p.m.), and it's beer bust night at the Poplar Lounge.
