Ariana Geneva Serves Up Advice (and Awesome Bloody Marys)

(Note – Tourism is one of Memphis’ major industries – we’ve got loads of things to do and see. Since this week is national tourism week, I’m profiling a few of the people who work to give visitors a great Memphis experience.)

Ariana Geneva, Superior Bar, Memphis, Tenn.

Bartender Ariana Geneva has some simple advice for people visiting Memphis:

1. Go to Superior on Beale St., eat some barbecue and drink a Bloody Mary.

2. Check out Rum Boogie and Silky O'Sullivan's.

3. Make sure to catch the Beale St. Flippers in action.

4. Be nice, and tip your bartender.

Granted, there's a little bit of bias in her advice, but Ariana knows her stuff. She's been a bartender on Beale for two years. Currently, she serves up beers and cocktails Superior, a barbecue joint located in a former police station. When she's not dispensing advice and alcohol, you can find her lacing up her skates with the Memphis Roller Derby.

Every day, she hangs out behind the bar cracking jokes and giving advice on the best things to see and do in Memphis. If the street is jumping, you can find her at the window facing the street, handing out to-go cups. "I like being downtown," she told me. "It's more relaxed, and I can have fun with the guests."

If you're hungry, Arianna says that you can't go wrong with  Superior's barbecue. "We smoke everything here and make our own sauce and beans. It's on point."
