I owe this post to the awesome Memphis Facebook fan who suggested that I check out Spruce in East Memphis. I totally appreciate reader tips, especially when they lead me to tiny, colorful, out-of-the-way places that sell amazing jewelry and interesting home decor items.

Spruce is sort of the ultimate in hidden gems. It's located on the western side of the gray brick shopping center / office park on Sanderlin, near Interim restaurant. It's been open for almost three years.

The storefront is rather small, but it's packed with color - there's furniture, lovely glass vases, handmade books, adorable toys, and reclaimed estate jewelry. The shop owner, Selena McAdams, is an interior designer, and all of the items inside Spruce have clearly been selected with great care and attention.

I hesitate to call Spruce an interior design store, because it's much more than that. On my visit, I was totally taken with their selection of adorable and unconventional stuffed animals. I picked up a sea foam green latticework pendant necklace. It reminds me a bit of a lawn chair.
