Reasons to Love Memphis #20: Urban Art Commission

In a small, airy office in the up-and-coming Broad Ave. arts district, the Urban Art Commission is working to make sure that there's plenty of public art to see in Memphis.

The Urban Art Commission works with companies, government bodies and local artists to make great public art accessible to everyone in Memphis. They're responsible for projects like the sculpture in Tom Lee Park, the  metal sculptures in Peabody Park by Yvonne Bobo and the giant mural on the building next to Redbirds Stadium.

This is John Weeden, the commission's executive director.

He's also the man behind my favorite Memphis art blog, the Weeden Arts Watch.

If you'd like to support public art in Memphis, get email the Urban Art Commission to get involved.

UrbanArt is great. They've helped us a lot in Cooper Young with bike racks made by local artists. They're also been a great resource for our upcoming mural projects.
