Checking out the Midtown Farmers Market (Closed)
I finally stopped into the recently-opened Midtown Farmers Market on Union Ave. yesterday afternoon. Owner John Raney wants to turn the former antique store into a year-round market for local produce, meat and handmade goodies.
So far, the Midtown Farmers Market is doing well at that goal. They have freezer cases full of meat from Neola Farms and Yoder Farms, prepared dinners from No Time 2 Cook, grits from Delta Grind, Aunt Lizzie's Cheese Straws and seafood from Muddy Waters Seafood.
I picked up a tub of medium-sized scallops for $6 and some of Aunt Lizzie's lemon straws for $7.
Right now, the market doesn't seem like it has as many items as it could. John Raney assured me that he's working on securing more vendors to make the place a real city market. The Midtown Farmers Market is on its way to local food greatness.
