Reasons to Love Memphis #13 - Our Ghosts
This is my office. It's the oldest commercial use building in Memphis. According to the Haunted Memphis tour I went on last weekend, it's also haunted. Apparently, the building was used as a military hospital to treat Union soldiers during the Civil War. The room that's now our main conference room served as the operating room. Our tour guide said that visitors to the building have reported hearing the screams (presumably of the men undergoing operations).
Personally, I've never heard anything, but that doesn't mean they're not there. Maybe the ones in my building save it for after you've been here for a few months.
Memphis has a lot of ghosts. The most legendary is probably Mary, the girl that haunts the Orpheum Theatre. There have also been ghosts reported at the Butcher Shop, the now-closed Orleans on Front, Earnestine and Hazel's and in Gayoso Alley. There's even a ghost hunting group in town that will come investigate paranormal activity.
Have you ever seen or felt anything paranormal in Memphis?
