One thing Memphis could definitely use more of is food trucks. They’re everywhere in Austin, and they’re kind of amazing.
I got this watermelon agave popsicle from the Ice Cream Man truck (parked on Trinity and 4th) this afternoon. Think how amazing it would be to have an all-natural popsicle truck in Overton Park during the [...]

I’m in Austin, Texas for South By Southwest this week.
Austin has some things in common with Memphis – it’s got loads of live music and clubs, barbecue, and a laid-back attitude. In the coming week, expect a lot of posts about the best interactive tools in Memphis, the amazing bands representing Memphis at the festival, [...]

Google is looking for a few communities around the U.S. to be the inaugural cities for its newest product, Google Fiber.

A few days ago, I noticed Ecko Records while driving to Graceland. Their sign promises a shop full of soul, blues, gospel, and old school music. They’ve got a sign in the window that says “Ecko Records now open. Get in 2-Day 4 your party later!!” It sounded like my kind of place.
I made a [...]

Day 62:
This car is pure Memphis.
Union Ave., Friday afternoon
Day 63:
In one of the tunnels at the FedEx Forum at halftime during the Grizzlies vs. Spurs game. Memphis Roller Derby played musical chairs against NBA mascots as the halftime entertainment.
Day 64:
That’s me, wearing deer antlers. I was helping out with a friend’s short film for [...]

After the Beale St. Music Fest press conference, I went to the Flying Saucer to indulge my big pretzel craving. I had them with spicy mustard and cream cheese and chives. Yum.

The shop is R. Sole, and they carry hard-to-find, high-end and designer sneakers, clothing, sunglasses and watches. The space has the vibe of a fine art museum for footwear. A shoeseum, if you will. Colorful shoes pop against the dark walls and limited edition kicks given holy glows in light boxes around the store.

I was invited to ARTjamN in Cooper Young a few nights ago to do a painting session. None of the guided paintings suited me, so I put on my headphones, squeezed some acrylic onto a paper plate and made this little…well, I can’t quite call it a masterpiece. I like it, though.
In other news:
