In other news:

- The Arcade Fire payed tribute to the late, great Jay Reatard in Philadelphia. They took  “Oh, It’s Such a Shame”, one of Jay’s loudest and brattiest songs, and turned it into indie rock awesomeness.

- Tonight is National Night Out, a night when neighborhoods and police come together to spend a night hanging out and forming partnerships to keep communities safe. In Memphis, there’s going to be a potluck at the Central police station on Union Ave from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Bring a dish to share and meet the officers that keep your city safe.

I did make it in time to see Memphis’s own Useless Eaters. Jay Reatard played bass for them, which was pretty cool.

All of the barbecue bands were pretty good, but the Useless Eaters were my favorites. The Thomas Function and the Mantles also played. The Mantles had a bit of technical difficulty at the beginning of their set. I’m not quite sure what happened, but I think their very cute drummer lost a cymbal in the middle of the first song.

There were plenty of great outfits – as usual, the girls outdid the boys with their vintage dresses, sunglasses and cute boots. Golden Ticket holders were able to pick up a cup and drink all of the cheap beer they wanted. All in all, a good time was had by all.
