Of course filmmaker Craig Brewer loves Memphis. The city has been an undeniable inspiration to his work (most of his movies have been shot in Memphis and feature some local music and actors).  His most recent Memphis-themed project, 5 Dollar Cover, was about the lives of a handful of Memphis musicians.

The Urban Art Commission works with companies, government bodies and local artists to make great public art accessible to everyone in Memphis. They’re responsible for projects like the sculpture in Tom Lee Park, the metal sculptures in Peabody Park by Yvonne Bobo and the giant mural on the building next to Redbirds Stadium.

A few weeks ago, the Today Show named its first ever Kid Reporter after a nationwide competition. The winner was perky, eloquent Deidra Shores, a 13 year-old from Memphis.

A lot of you know this, but I carry the I Love Memphis sign around with me just about everywhere. It’s always folded in half and tucked in the back of my notebook.

Memphians are an opinionated bunch. I asked a simple question – “Who’s got the best breakfast in Memphis”. I got at least two dozen answers, a lot of persuasion and a healthy dose of smack talk.

There had to be a better way. A somewhat scientific system for determining who’s breakfast reigns supreme.
