Essential Memphis Media

Print

The Commercial Appeal – Memphis’ major newspaper, published seven days per week and updated online several times per day.

The Memphis Flyer – The local alternative newsweekly. It focuses on local politics, events, entertainment and food.

Memphis Business Journal
– A local business newspaper, published every week day.

Memphis Daily News
– A business and legal newspaper that is published every week day. On weekends, they publish the Memphis News, a features and general interest magazine.

RSVP
– Think of RSVP as an old school version of Facebook. While there are a few articles, the focus of this weekly is photos of people at parties.

Memphis Magazine
– A monthly magazine about life in the Mid-South. Includes Ask Vance, a local history column where Vance Lauderdale answers Memphians’ questions about the city’s past obscurities.

Television

WMCTV
– Channel 5, the local NBC affiliate. One of Channel 5’s most defining (and entertaining) features is their storm coverage with local weather juggernaut Dave Brown.

Fox 13
- Channel 13, the local Fox affiliate.

ABC-24
– Channel 24, the local ABC affiliate.

WKNO
– Channel 10, the local PBS affiliate.

Radio

WEVL
– 89.9 FM. Memphis’ only all-volunteer radio station. The unpaid DJs sign up for weekly 2 hour slots that they can format as they please.

WKNO
-  91.1 FM. NPR for Memphis and the Mid-South. They play news programming during the morning and evening, and classical music in between. If you’re looking for all news programming, switch to WKNO HD 2, which features NPR and American Public Media programming when WKNO is playing music.

Hot 107.1
–  107.1 FM. Memphis’ most beloved rap station. Because Hot 107 is locally owned, they give plenty of airtime to Memphis artists and songs that seem to only exist on Hot 107. On the weekends, they have live DJs.

FM 100
-  99.7 FM. Adult contemporary music and drive-time shows.

Soul Classics
– 103.5 FM. An R&B and soul station that plays classics, both new and old.

The Q
– 107.5 FM. A youth-oriented top-40 station.
