MLK50 Artwork Unveiling at Art Village GalleryMarch 16, 6:30 pm-8:30 pm
In partnership with the National Civil Rights Museum, Art Village Gallery invites you to a special artwork unveiling, poster signing and poster pre-sale reception in celebration of MLK50, which honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the 50th anniversary of his assassination.
In recognition of the tremendous legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who sought to bring a nation together in justice and peace, Ephraim Urevbu has created, E Pluribus Unum: Out of Many, One, an original painting to commemorate MLK50.
“People coming together as one, says, Ephraim. Bringing people together is part of why Dr. King came to Memphis. I remember Dr. King’s speech and his vision, that people would join hands together. That is what this piece is all about. You see the American flag as an umbrella to which people of all nations, races, creeds, dreams unite to build a nation so very powerful. It encourages us to carry that spirit of what Dr. King’s message was. In a visual way, I tried capture that. From many is one. The colors represent the diversity, the array of nationalities here, the myriad of cultures and religions that make up what America is today. If we celebrate that, focus on what makes us so strong, then we rise as a nation, then we fulfill Dr. King’s speech and it becomes reality.”
In the spirit of forging new paths and coming together, Art Village Gallery has not only created the MLK50 artwork, Ephraim and Sheila Urevbu are generously donating 100 copies of the original artwork to the National Civil Rights Museum to help fundraise for further community programs and outreach.
