Art Exhibition Reception: The Familiar & The SublimeFebruary 2, 6:00 pm-8:00 pm
L Ross Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition for regional landscape artists Jeanne Seagle & Pam Hassler. Titled “The Familiar and The Sublime,” the exhibition opens February 1 and continues through February 24 with a reception honoring the artists Friday, February 2, 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Jeanne Seagle honors the temporary and fragile Delta landscape in her third exhibition at L Ross Gallery, focusing on her stunning wax charcoal pencil drawings. Seagle’s drawings were juried into the 56tth Annual Delta Exhibition and have been featured in Number Magazine’s Art of the South.
“I love crossing the Mississippi River on the old interstate bridge, a pipeline to the West. First exit and you’re in the fields, the wilderness. This is where I come to connect, to find adventure and escape. So, I draw it, and these pictures become the landmarks in my life.” -Seagle
For the past several years Pam Hassler has focused her oil paintings on the lush landscape found along the Wolf River in Collierville. For this exhibition the artist changes to loose brushwork and subtle color to capture her spiritual connection with light on the Wolf River.
“I walk the Collierville nature trail to the Wolf River during all seasons of the year, marveling at the constant changes and endless possibilities for paintings.”
Classmates and friends at Memphis College of Art, these artists have since been included in numerous corporate collections and juried exhibitions. Hassler has also taught at the University of Tennessee, University of Memphis, Memphis College of Art, and Christian Brothers University.
