46th Annual Silky O’Sullivan St. Patrick’s Day ParadeMarch 16, 12:00 pm-1:30 pm
The Beale Street Merchants Association will host the 46th Annual Silky O’ Sullivan St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 16th at noon.
This year’s Royal Court is comprised of King Joe Birch, longtime news anchor at WMC-TV Channel 5; local hula hoop artist Queen Ellen Phillips; and Grand Marshall Paula Raiford of Raiford’s Disco. They are joined by honorees Irish piano man Gerald McLaughlan and Grand Poo Pah Clarence Connery. This year’s Irish-American of the Year is Joseph P. Donnelly III, a Memphis businessman and member of the Candy Hall of Fame.
The Silky Sullivan St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the centerpiece of four days of events celebrating Irish traditions, heritage, and family. Every year a group of Irish dignitaries flies in for the festivities, which includes both public events and private functions, including VIP dinners and a salute to Ireland from the organizers of Memphis’ Africa In April.
The parade down Beale Street is free and open to the public. Spectators are invited to wear green and bring the family to the city’s largest parade with bands, cars, dancers, floats and more! This year’s parade is earlier so as not to conflict with the American Athletic Conference men’s basketball tournament being held at the FedEx Forum.
On St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday, March 17, the celebration concludes with a pub crawl that works its way from Midtown west on Madison before ending on Beale.
