After a recent breakfast at the Pancake Shop, a bakery across the street caught my eye.
It looked like an old-school Memphis bakery with a Hispanic twist. It looked so interesting that I had to go in (that, and because I’m a total sucker for baked goods).
As it turns out, I was right. Kay Bakery is [...]
My friends at Backbeat Memphis launched their brand new site today. Backbeat has made some super cool short videos to highlight some of the little known parts of Memphis that make the city special.
Your tour guide for the videos is local musician / tour bus driver / classy gent about town Memphis Jones.
I’m a big [...]
Songwriter Bob Gaudio is one of the Four Seasons, the band that the musical “Jersey Boys” was based on. He was in Memphis today to promote the show (which is going to be at the Orpheum from Jan. 27 – Feb. 14). He told me that he hadn’t been to Memphis since he performed here [...]

Duckworth creates her mosaics at her studio, a big, [...]

His most recent Memphis-themed project, 5 Dollar Cover, was about the lives of a handful of Memphis musicians.
Craig Brewer gets Memphis. He [...]
There was a ton going on in Memphis this past weekend, and I have to admit – I didn’t make it out to as many things as I should have.
Friday night, I went to the Drive By Press show at Five in One.
In addition to their gallery work, the Drive By Press guys brought their [...]
I’m not really one to get all sentimental, but when I asked people on Facebook and Twitter what parts of Memphis they were thankful for, the responses made me feel even better about Memphis and the people who live here.
The Urban Art Commission works with companies, government bodies and local artists to make great public art accessible to everyone in Memphis. They’re responsible for projects like the sculpture in Tom Lee Park, the metal sculptures in Peabody Park by Yvonne Bobo and the giant mural on the building next to Redbirds Stadium.
