9 Ways To Give Back To Memphis This Month (June 2018)
Volunteer Odyssey and I Love Memphis make it super easy for you to help the city you love by publishing a monthly list of easy, fun ways to volunteer in Memphis. Here are nine ideas for June 2018.
1. Levitt Shell Memphis 2018 Spring/Summer Season: every Thursday-Sunday from 4pm-10pm
Join the Levitt Shell in Overton Park as a volunteer in its 10th season of free music in Memphis. There are multiple volunteer opportunities Thursday through Sunday each week. Help make it happen by volunteering your time & talents. Become part a part of the Levitt Shell Family and join them on their mission of community and music!
2. Memphis Botanic Garden’s Fun Fridays: every Friday until August 31st from 9:30am-12:30pm
Join the Memphis Botanic Gardens in helping teach children about topics related to camping. No prior knowledge is needed! Volunteers should be willing to work outdoors and be friendly with children.
3. Shelby Farms Park Canoes + Cocktails: Thursday, June 14th from 4pm-9pm
The Park closes at sunset, but Shelby Farms will be hosting a guided lake tour on Hyde Lake! In order to put on Canoes + Cocktails we are reaching out to anyone who is interested in helping keep the Park open after dark. Volunteers will work the majority of the time ensuring parking goes smoothly, helping unload/load guests canoes/kayaks and event clean up.
4. Healthy Germantown Warrior Challenge: Saturday, June 16th from 9:30am-2pm
Healthy Germantown and Germantown Parks & Recreation are seeking volunteers to help with the 2018 Healthy Germantown Kid’s Warrior Challenge. Participants will venture through the ultimate obstacle course to determine Germantown’s greatest warrior!
5. Wolf River Conservancy’s Harbor Cleanup: Saturday, June 16th from 9am-noon
Join the Wolf River Conservancy for a large-scale river cleanup in the heart of Memphis. Volunteers are needed to assist with litter and debris removal—both in Wolf River Harbor and on the surrounding banks.
6. Neighborhood Christian Center Volunteer Readers: Monday, June 4th through July 26th from 12:45pm-2:15pm
NCC is looking for Volunteer Readers for each of our Neighborhood sites for youth ages 5-12 attending our Learning With Lunch Summer Camp. Reading activities include Bible Verse Memorization, Individual and Group Reading. Volunteers can select a date or several dates to come and enjoy this time with the youth of NCC.
7. Make-A-Wish Golf Classic: Monday, June 25th from 11:30am-6pm
The Make-A-Wish Golf Classic will be June 25 at TPC Southwind. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the summer weather and give back at the same time. Since its inception, the Golf Classic has raised over $3 million, and by volunteering, you can help ensure the event is a success and that Make-A-Wish is able to continue to do the important work that they do.
8. Carpenter Art Garden’s Tuesday Art Garden: every Tuesday from 3:45pm-5pm
Join us for Tuesday Art Garden on Carpenter Street! Volunteers will help to set up, work with students on themed art projects and clean up at the end of the day. This is a great opportunity to interact and engage with the children of Binghampton. (Photo at the top of this post is from Carpenter Art Garden)
9. Germantown Parks and Recreation Groovin’ and Grillin’ Concert Series: Tuesday, June 5th, 9th, and 12th from 5:30pm-8pm
Help out at one of Germantown’s favorite events- Groovin’ and Grillin! Volunteers will be responsible for assisting with food and drink distribution throughout the concert as well as facilitating games and crowd involvement. Concerts occur every Tuesday in June.
