Join The Third Thursday Club At The Grove Grill

There's a new way to try different drinks and dishes from one of East Memphis' favorite restaurants, and it is The Grove Grill's Third Thursday club. I'm giving away a pair of tickets ($90 value) to the May 17 Third Thursday Club meeting, which will be from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

The giveaway is part of our #ILoveMemphisMondays series on Instagram, so you have to go to Instagram to enter. Click here or see this embedded Instagram post below. Then keep reading to find out more about TTC.

The Grove Grill is in Laurelwood Shopping Center in East Memphis, and there's a few things you need to know about them. First, they have an underrated bar and happy hour. Second, they got a new chef and beverage director last year - Chip and Amanda Dunham, respectively - plus new decor, wine list, and fresh, seasonal menus.

Third, they have a new thing called "Third Thursday" that you foodies are going to love. Read more about the Grove Grill in this article.

At each Third Thursday Club meeting, you'll get four drinks (when I went there was a beer, two wines, and a cocktail) paired with tapas. It's $45 per person, plus you'll need to add in tax and gratuity. It's from 6:30 p.m. -8:30 p.m., the next one is Thursday, May 17. You need to call 901-818-9951 for reservations to ensure your spot (and/or you can enter on Instagram, of course.)

For each month that you attend, you'll also get:
- a one-time half-off discount on a bottle of wine in the dining room
- a free happy hour snack
- discount on any other wine/beer dinners that The Grove Grill has

All the discounts have to be used before the next Third Thursday night (aka within a month).

But let's talk about when I went to the inaugural Third Thursday back in March.

I started out with Baller Brown Ale from High Cotton with house-made charcuterie. I love me some charcuterie, and I've had a lot of it around town, and this was quite good.

Next, we tried Bend Islands Pinot Noir with roasted quail, sweet potato grits, with a kind of delicious savory barbecue-related sauce.

After that, it was time for the liquor. Casamigos Tequila pineapple cocktail, which was only a touch too sweet for me, but paired well with the Red Fish and pineapple fried rice.

I also tried Fleur de Lis White Pinot Noir - which is something I'd only had maybe once before, and it was unique in a great way. I'd buy a bottle of this. I didn't get a chance to try the dessert, but it was strawberry shortcake.

I misunderstood this event as a come-and-go happy hour, and therefore arrived halfway through. Most everyone was already finished eating, and while I did get kind and enthusiastic service and made-to-order food (the wine rep for Brandbord Winery was particularly informative and fun) it kind of felt like I'd missed the party. So that was my bad. If I were to go again, I'd arrive right at the start - 6:30 p.m. for May.

If you haven't been to the Grove Grill in a while, I highly recommend it. I went back a few weeks later for their happy hour and was impressed. I'll write about that soon. In the meantime, make your reservations for the May Third Thursday by calling(901) 818-9951, and don't forget to enter on Instagram.
