Item #137 on our list of 365 Things To Do In Memphis is to Ride Your Bike To Work (or Play!)

And what better day to do it than on National Bike to Work Day?

This year’s Bike to Work Day is on Friday, May 18. Participating is easy – all you have to do is ride your bike to work and register online here. Or, if you aren’t going to work on Friday, just ride your bike somewhere.

Here are a few things to know before you bike to work:

– Memphis has added tons of bike lanes to city streets in the past few years, so if you’re a newbie commuter, check out this bike lane map to plan your route.

– Stash a change of clothes for work in your bag and don’t forget to wear a helmet. You’ll need your brains when you get to the office.

– There will be free breakfast stations across the Medical District and surrounding areas, all you need to do is RSVP so they can be sure to have enough food. Check out the list below for breakfast locations and more info here.

Are you planning on riding to work this Friday? Where is your favorite place to ride in town? Let me know in the comments.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
