365 Things to Do in Memphis #136: Find a New Favorite Beer at Zoo Brew

Assignment #136 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to grab your tiny cups – it’s time for Zoo Brew, the Memphis Zoo’s annual beer tasting fund raiser.

Zoo Brew, Memphis, Tenn.

For one night every year (except 2017 for some reason), the Memphis Zoo stays open late for a huge beer tasting. You grab a tiny cup and a map and wander through the zoo, sampling craft beers from Memphis and around the world. There are usually more than 100 different beers available at dozens of booths, so it’s easy to find new favorites.

There’s also live music and food for sale. Sadly, you won’t be able to see any of the animals in their habitats, save for maybe a few that don’t go inside at night. This event is 21+ only, so there won’t be able kids around, either – bring them on any other day of the year!

Don’t let the tiny cup fool you – it’s entirely possible to get a little (or a lot) tipsy at Zoo Brew. You can sample as many beers as you want as often as you want, so it would be smart to either walk to the park or arrange for a designated driver or cab.

This year’s Zoo Brew is happening on Friday, May 25th from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. You must be 21 to attend and you need to buy your ticket in advance. Member tickets are $45 and non-member tickets are $50.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
