Where To Get Oysters In Memphis

Where To Get Oysters In Memphis

Memphis may be landlocked, but we also have FedEx overnight shipping, so hooray for oysters!

These are the places to get oysters in Memphis. I've focused on places that offer raw oysters on the half shell; if those same restaurants offer cooked oysters I included that. At the bottom, you'll find a list of Memphis restaurants that serve predominately cooked oysters only, i.e., in a fried oyster poboy.

East Memphis and Suburbs

Friday Tuna (750 N. Germantown Parkway, Cordova)
This Cordova hibachi joint offers raw and grilled "Cajun style" oysters in addition to their classic hibachi and sushi menu.

The Grove Grill (4550 Poplar)
The Grove Grill serves raw, grilled, and fried oysters on their lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch menus. They also serve raw oysters on the half shell for $1 each during happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The Half Shell (688 S. Mendendall and 7825 Winchester)
The Half Shell says they've provided fresh Gulf oysters to the Mid-South for more than 30 years. At both of their locations, they currently serve varieties of baked (Bienville or Rockefeller), grilled, and fried oysters, in addition to raw ones on the half shell. Plus, they have fried oyster poboys.

Mortimer's (590 N. Perkins)
This East Memphis staple is a favorite for Gulf oysters on the half shell or baked oysters. They also have a 75 cent Oyster Night every Tuesday and Saturday (two dozen limit per person). One of their bartenders, Mark, was recently featured on this blog, too.

Owen Brennan's (6150 Poplar)
A New Orleans inspired eatery would be weird without some oysters on the menu, so it makes sense that Owen Brennan's delivers with all-you-can-eat raw oysters on the half shell as a part of their Sunday brunch buffet. They also have a dedicated section for raw and cooked oysters on their daily lunch and dinner menus.

Binghampton

Bounty on Broad (2519 Broad)
Bounty has a rotating selection of different oysters on the half shell - as well as fried gulf oysters - on the seafood section of their menu. In the past, they've done half-price oysters during happy hour.

The Cove Cockatil & Oyster Bar (2559 Broad)
This pirate-themed bar deserves more credit for their food especially their oysters, which are shucked to order. You can get oysters on the half shell, Rockefeller, Casino, Bleu Cheese, or a mix. They have oyster and cocktail specials from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. every day. ICYMI, they've been non-smoking for a while.

Midtown

Bayou (2094 Madison)
The Bayou in Overton Square serves both raw oysters on the half shell and cooked oysters (Bienville, Rockefeller, and chargrilled) for lunch, dinner, and at brunch. They also have a fried oyster basket and a poboy.

Local on the Square (2126 Madison)
Local offers raw Gulf oysters ($1.50 each) as well as baked (with garlic and Gruyere) and buttermilk fried (with Sriracha honey).

Indian Pass Raw Bar (2059 Madison)
Indian Pass Raw Bar opened its second location (the original is in Florida) in March of 2018 in the former Chiwawa location on Madison just west of Overton Square. They have raw, baked, and chargrilled oysters plus other seafood, a big patio, beer, and live music a few days a week.

Sweet Grass (937 S. Cooper)
Sweet Grass opened a raw bar in February and it's been packed every time I stopped by afterwards (which is quite a few times). This may be due to their Oyster Happy Hour special which includes 75 cent Gulf oysters from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday. They also have a rotating selection of raw oysters from other sources and a few cooked ones including BBQ, Rockefeller, etc.

Downtown

Flying Fish (502 S. 2nd)
This casual downtown cafe should be your go-to spot for all manner of seafood cravings: fried and grilled fish and shrimp, crab legs, and of course, raw and fried oysters. Side note: Fried oysters from Flying Fish are #37 on the 100 Things to Eat In Memphis (2013 Edition).

Pearl's Oyster House (229 S. Main)
It's in the name, so that tells you...well, all it really tells you is that they serve oysters. They have a selection of oysters prepared seven different ways, i.e., raw, Rockefeller, flash fried...all served at lunch and dinner each day (dine-in only). Their raw oysters are from the Gulf. They also have a fried oyster poboy.

Silky O'Sullivan's (183 Beale)
Silky's serves oysters…who knew? I honestly had no idea until I started doing research, but they do have Gulf oysters on the half shell as well as Rockefeller, Bienville, and charbroiled. They also serve a fried oysters basket.

Gray Canary (301 S. Front)
The AM restaurant group's fifth Memphis eatery boasts a boutique raw bar ranging from $2.50 to $4.50 per oyster on the half shell.

The Brass Door (152 Madison Ave.)
This downtown cozy Irish pub offers chargrilled oyster specials on Mondays (different preparations, $1 each) along with $4 pints of Guinness.

Keep in mind that prices, menus, and hours can change. I do my very best to keep information up-to-date, but it's always best to call ahead to be certain if it's really important to you.

Which restaurants would you add to this list? Let me know in the comments.
