365 Things to Do in Memphis #87: Take Yourself Out to the Ball Game
Memphis has one of the nicest minor league baseball stadiums in the country. Assignment #87 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to spend a spring afternoon or evening in said stadium watching the Memphis Redbirds play ball.
It’s easy to forget that you’re in the middle of a city during a Redbird’s game. The stadium is breezy and quiet, the food is awesome (they have barbecue nachos!), and starting at just $9, tickets are inexpensive. The stadium is almost like a park that happens to have a huge baseball diamond. There’s a playground, people chill on blankets on the bluff, kids run around, and there are games.
The Redbirds 2017 home games start on Tuesday, April 11. After that, the Birds play at home several times every week until August. You can read more about this season here. If you need more reasons to go, know that the Redbirds regularly have special promotions during home games. Here are just a few of the ones scheduled for this season:
– Thirsty Thursdays: Fans 21+ can enjoy $2 draft beers
– All-You-Can-Eat Thursdays: Special tickets allow you access to a buffet every Thursday. They have different themes, like crawfish, burgers, tacos, etc.
– Saturday Postgame Fireworks: Fireworks at the end of every Saturday home game, plus on Sunday, May 29 and Monday, July 3
– Ice Cream Sundays: The first 2,500 kids age 12 and under will receive a free ice cream treat, courtesy of Prairie Farms Dairy.
You can buy tickets for Redbirds home games online or at AutoZone Park.
