Five Minute Food Review: Maple Bacon Donuts

Five Minute Food Review: Maple Bacon Donuts

As much as I love what Gibson's Donuts has to offer at 2 a.m., there's one donut that - though perfect for the time - never seems to be in the case. But during the day, the world's greatest 2 a.m. food is available by the dozen. Friends, behold the maple bacon donut:

Maple Bacon Donut, Gibson's Donuts, Memphis, Tenn.

You know how normal yeast donuts from Gibson's have some kind of frosting and sprinkes? The Maple bacon donut is like that, but with bacon crumbles instead of Tiger blue jimmies.

For something so exuberantly unhealthy, it's surprisingly light (though, I'm not sure what it says about me that I think that something deep fried that's covered in sugar and bacon could possibly be light). Paula Deen only wishes she had invented a decadent food delivery system as efficient as this donut.

I only ate one, because one is probably all your doctor would recommend that you eat (provided that your doctor cares about both good things and your health), but I seriously debated ordering a second one. But not a third - that's just extravagant.
