Behold, The BBQ Rib Taco
Ed. Note: The I Love Memphis blog is all about some gas station/food truck/random location Memphis grub. Blog contributor Michael Butler has discovered another off-the-beaten-path spot to satisfy your cravings for two essential food groups: barbecue and tacos. I’m happy to share Michael’s post with you.
Behold, I found a BBQ rib taco! Yes, you heard that right. A BBQ rib taco…and I got it from the most unlikely place.
See, I told you it was real. And mane, was it good. Located at the corner of Ross Road and Winchester sits Memphis’ hidden taco gem. I’m not 100% sure of the name, but it’s a small red building. Or maybe it’s a truck? I’m not sure.
(Ed. Note: The Health Dept. sheet says “El Gallo” but the signs say “Mexican BBQ” and “Asador Mexicano”, so decide for yourself what we should call this place of wonder…)
Do I really need to go I to detail about how awesome a BBQ pork rib taco is? Trust me go and get a few. They are only $2.50 or 4 for $10, which is a great deal. I also picked up two chicken and two steak tacos.
To top it all off, I got what the owner called “pineapple juice”. I thought it would be regular juice but nope: he cut up a whole pineapple, blended it twice, and added fermented pineapple pulp to it with water and it was the most refreshing drink I’ve had in a while. Just, wow.
If you’re in the area, you have to go by and try this out. If you’re not in the area, you have to make the trip over to try this place out.
If I can find out the exact hours, I will update this post for sure.
El Gallo / Mexican BBQ
near the Q-Mart at 6745 Winchester Rd.
